Val studied at The American Acadamy of Dramatic Arts and The Actor’s Institute and appeared Off-Broadway in the role of Sally in In the Boom Boom Room (David Rabes). She made her television debut as the voice of Becky Sue in Schoolhouse Rock’s, “Dollars and Sense.” Pursuing her first love as a jazz artist, she recorded "Almost Blue" (Denon); “Seventies Reminiscense” (Columbia Japan); and “A Long Vacation” composing, arranging, singing and playing guitar. Her current group, “3Spirit” performs at jazz festivals and clubs in the tristate area, and can be heard on Angel records “Tony Caruso’s Last Broadcast.” Val teaches music, voice, guitar, swimming and water aerobics, jams with her 16-year old, and is completing her CD, “Dream.” In her role as Grace in PHOENIX RISING, Val has happily and gratefully returned to the stage as an actor.
Personal Statement:
“In my work, I teach a wide population that includes tiny tots, teens and elderly people. My personal life has me balancing between parenting my teenage girl and counseling my aging mother. In the midst of the fear and stress that these roles can produce, I find myself searching for the meaning and the connections, finding synchronicity in so much that happens in my life. That was very much the case with this work. As it was described to me, I realized that it dealt with the very issues I was working through. So, after years away from acting, I jumped in, and the more I participated, the more I recognized the opportunities for enlightenment and empowerment not just for myself, but for all all who come in contact with the play.”
