Personal statement:
"Having grown up in the theater, I entered this project like I enter all theatrical projects, open to the words and the process of creation.  Although the project is evolving like a living organism, I knew the first time I read the script that there was a very powerful message that needed a platform.  We all participated in a two-week workshop, which was where I felt the first shift in my thoughts about this piece.  I've only been in two settings of an all female theatrical company.  Both experiences were incredible.  The amount of trust was amazing, and the fast friendships that developed were much needed and welcomed.  Most of the exercises we did, I had either read about or done before, but there was something different about doing them with this group of women.  I went right back to my teenage years and realized many of the insecurities I carry with me began in high school.  All of those uncomfortable issues and situations came flooding back; except, this time, I wasn't a scared, young girl trying to find her way.  I was  grown woman, allowing myself to feel the emotion of my youth in a safe environment, and I was able exercise those emotions in a healthy way.  It was a form of therapy.  I was telling, not only the story of my character, but through many mediums (song, dance, chant, touch), I was telling my story. Telling my story to the universe without shame.  I was taking ownership of my body and voice and healing emotional wounds along the way.  I have a warm place in my heart for this piece and believe that part of healing is giving a person the space and safety to express what they feel in whatever creative form they need.  My job as an actor stays the same -- I must embody my part to the fullest, in order to show these young women that they are not alone.  There is always a choice.  But this piece touches me on a deeper level.  Every time I read the words, I remember that I always have a choice.  It doesn't have to be black and white.  We can "color our world" and that is real power.  My biggest hope for this project is to fully mount the production and then take it to the people.  I'm interested in hearing the conversation after the show and seeing the positive ways we can channel negative experiences.  I'm grateful to Laura and Sheri for writing such a wonderful, true piece, and Daniel for being the brave male to lead us through the journey."
