Personal statement

“I have always wondered what people meant when they said that they have had a "life changing experience."  Well, I finally found out when I took the workshop.  I was given the chance -- just like we hope to give others a chance.  I was exposed to beautiful stories and surrounded by such brilliant open people.  The guidance and support we received from the director and the writers was of major importance to me as an individual, and I have been deeply touched.  I have always been true to who i am, even as a child.  But even with that awareness and maturity, I hadn’t realized that I had a shield up, as well.  My armor was stripped, and I gave in.  With the support of these beautiful people, I literally was lifted like a phoenix rising.  I now have even more awareness that I would not have without being involved with this project.  This workshop, and the play, allowed me to feel very deeply and see even clearer than I ever imagined was possible.  That is a gift -- a gift we want to pass on.  From my own experience, I can truly say that using the creative arts as a tool can expand one’s mind, heart, and soul; it is a way to express and heal.  I am so excited to be a part of this project.  I will always be a part of it, and I can’t wait to see all the joy and healing, as it touches others permanently. I went through it. I know it.  This is the truth.”
